5 Benefits of Alternative Education

For us at Invent Learning, good education should be available for all students, everywhere. But for a lot of students, education is a draining experience that they can never get on board with. We want to help students and their parents to know that education isn’t just about what you can learn in textbooks, but often the holistic experience of learning itself – learning about life skills and how to succeed in all sorts of trades, not just academics.

The public and private education system tend to offer programs that are representative of what the government or state officials deem to be acceptable. Our aim at Invent Learning is to help those students whom it may seem to be ‘failing’ in a traditional schooling system actually thrive. So, if your child seems to be struggling a lot in a more traditional school, you should consider taking them to an alternative school that delivers an alternative education.

Alternative schools, such as ours, have lots of benefits, many of which aren’t even experienced  or available in public schools. From individualised, personal learning to enrichment beyond the classroom, here are the five  benefits of alternative education.

Individual Learning

One of the main benefits of an alternative education is that the learner gets a personalised education experience that can help them to learn. Each teaching lesson is tailored to the individual, therefore students are able to spend their time doing the things that they are passionate about. This leads to higher engagement and greatly boosts students’ ability to grasp concepts.

By offering individualised learning experiences that cater to a broad range of learning styles, alternative education is viewed as a positive choice, rather than a last resort.

Holistic Development

One of our favourite benefits (for both teachers and students alike!) is that a lot of alternative education programs are not actually taught within the four walls of school but instead involve all sorts of programs from the community and external educators. By breaking out of the classroom and traditional education regimes that put pressure on academic success, alternative education instead focuses on students as a whole person by fostering the social, emotional and physical aspects of the child at the same time. These practices can include mindfulness, meditation, art, and structured physical activity that incorporates all aspects of a healthy functioning body. By developing these non-academic skills, students are able to gain confidence in all aspects of their lives; gaining valuable skills and learning important life lessons.

Integrated Curriculum

One of the major benefits of an alternative education is that alternative schools such as Invent Learning can offer an integrated curriculum that cuts across different fields. Learners can therefore be assisted with learning that goes beyond the classroom and gain an understanding of the fundamentals of the world. This therefore makes an individual well-rounded in different fields, confident in many aspects of day to day life and can comfortably explain why certain things work the way they do.

Encourages Creativity

One of the goals of alternative education is that it breeds, encourages and motivates creativity. When students know that they are free from judgement and they are able to fully be themselves, they are able to step into their confidence and express themselves freely.

Creativity in the classroom can come to life in a range of different ways. Facilitated by the teaching staff through hands-on projects, teamwork, and problem-solving activities, students are encouraged to think differently and explore new ideas. Providing students with the opportunity to practise and refine creative skills starts in an alternative education classroom.

Builds Confidence & Emotional Intelligence

Finally, by going at their own pace and tailoring learning to individuals, alternative education can easily help to facilitate personal purpose and fulfilment. When teachers (and everyone) respects individual human interests, abilities and goals, students are able to find and follow a wonderful journey based on their own sense of purpose.

So, there we have it. Alternative education systems help students to forge their own paths in life by equipping them with the all-important soft and hard skills. By providing a healthy learning environment, alternative education is one of the best ways that you can help your child to flourish.
