CASE STUDIES

Sarah

Student 2 is a 16-year-old from Loughborough. Her home life has been unstable with living in a care home for a short period of time. Whilst at this care home, she was said to be dealing cocaine to other residents, and as a result, was was removed from the home and is now back with her mum.

Invent have helped her in Vocational support and she gained employment with JD Sports, but she felt the wages were poor so left employment. She shows a real interest in Hair & Beauty. However it is clear that due to negative influences in her personal life, this has affected her attendance and behaviour at times.

She has since responded well to sessions on crime and recently listened to an external speaker at Invent with avid interest. Her motivation and attitude towards overall work is poor, but when she wants she can produce some really good work through persistent encouragement and direct support. The post 16 Manager has attended her reviews in person and on video calls, and this has helped her feel supported.

There are some concerns around how she influences younger students, and she is being made aware of this. Behind her vulnerability, she can demonstrate a good standard of work and with the support of Invent she can work towards achieving her Functional Skills, developing a better work ethic to help maintain a part time job and overcoming her drug use/dealing through educating and referrals with agencies such as Turning Point.
